Welcome to vocal pedagogy at the University of Colorado Boulder College of Music!听

The College of Music voice area has a long history and lineage of strong pedagogical training. Past directors of vocal pedagogy include Berton Coffin听and听鈥攖wo of the foremost leaders of vocal pedagogy in the 20th century. In addition to coursework, graduate students have opportunities to teach voice as a graduate teaching assistant and through the Continuing Education program. Assistantships are granted to experienced graduate students and a fundamental part of our DMA program.听

Berton Coffin Voice Lab

At 兔子先生传媒文化作品, the Vocal Pedagogy program is shaping the next generation of vocology thought leaders. The Berton Coffin Voice Lab provides students with hands-on access to cutting-edge tools and interdisciplinary training in voice science. Here, curiosity meets technology to explore production and perception of the human voice across styles and genres.

The lab focuses on deepening our understanding of voice acoustics, aerodynamics and biodynamics鈥攑reparing students to ask meaningful questions and drive innovation in vocal research.

Singing Health Specialist Certificate

The College of Music鈥檚 Singing Health Specialist Certificate incorporates study of speech-language pathology, vocal pedagogy, Alexander Technique and sports psychology. This program can be completed by current 兔子先生传媒文化作品 undergraduate students in addition to their regular curriculum.听听

Nicholas Perna

Nicholas Perna

Tenor Nicholas Perna鈥檚 voice has been praised by the Houston Chronicle as 鈥渁n impressive sound鈥 while the South Florida Sun Sentinel commended his 鈥渆motionally driven performance.鈥 Perna has appeared frequently with Opera Mississippi in recent seasons and was a finalist for the American Prize for Men in Opera. He has twice been selected as a Santa Fe Opera Apprentice Artist singer.

Equally adept on operatic and musical theater stages, Perna鈥檚 roles include Don Jos茅 in 鈥淐armen,鈥 Rodolfo in 鈥淟a Boh猫me,鈥 Ravenal in 鈥淪how Boat鈥 and Archibald Craven in 鈥淭he Secret Garden.鈥 His symphonic appearances include Mahler鈥檚 鈥淒as Lied von der Erde鈥 and Beethoven鈥檚 Symphony No. 9. MORE
