CO Geographic Alliance
Colorado Geographic Alliance (COGA)

Logo designed by Millie Spencer.
Overview
The Colorado Geography Alliance (COGA) is a statewide initiative to promote Geography Education and provide K-12, college, and university educators with lesson plans, hands-on activities, workshops, and professional development.Ìý
We seek to promote and foster Geography’s interconnections across the Environmental Sciences, Geographic Information/Data Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities.Ìý
We believe the inherent interdisciplinarity of Geography provides an essential foundation for tackling the opportunities and challenges facing Colorado by providing students with an integrated set of skills to meet an ever-changing job market.Ìý
This initiative will center Indigenous knowledge, focus on under-resourced schools and communities, and highlight the value and experiences of Colorado’s diverse communities.
We seek to communicate the importance of Geography as both a public resource and a science for the common good of all Coloradans.
Logo Description
The colors represent the Colorado state flag, and the design includes various references to Colorado's geography including the Rockies, pine forest, wildflowers and grasses, a moose, and a river, representing many types of physical geographic research; the Denver skyline, representing key areas of human geographic work and relation to environment and urban areas, as well as bird of prey, making a nod to the Arapaho, Ute, and Cheyenne tribes' relationship with the Eagle and its connection to the creator; and a satellite to represent remote sensing and GIS.
